Deschambault National

Round 8 of the outdoor MX portion of the Rockstar Triple Crown series took place in Deschambault in QC, just 30 minutes from Quebec City.

As always, the facility and track were top notch and the crowd was large, enthusiastic and ready for great racing in La Belle Province.

Mixed results and feelings from the qualifying in the morning.  While Pettis would serve notice that he was here to win posting a time more than 2 seconds faster than anyone else, Hayden Halstead would have a serious crash.  Hayden missed a shift to the 130ft double and cased the landing terribly.   The result could have been much worse, as it is he will be sidelined for the rest of the season with a fracture to his T12 and a mild concussion.

Moto 1 would of course see Pettis and Cannella try to focus on the task at hand while their thoughts were with Hayden waiting for word on his condition.  Pettis would enter a dogfight with GDR mounted Dylan Wright much to the delight of the crowd for the majority of the moto with Dylan coming out with the upper hand at the line to take the win.  Cannella would again find himself in 5th in no mans land as far as battles as he rode the moto by himself.

Moto 2 looked like it would be more of the same as all the front runners were battling for the lead.   Kawasakis Shawn Maffenbeier would lose his front end in a very fast section claiming himself and Dylan Wright in the crash.   Pettis would sneak through for 3rd and would fight the track trying to find away around the KTM’s in front of him.  Cannella would run 6th were he would settle in and take 5-6 for 6th overall on the day.  Pettis would eventually tip over trying to find away around and remounted to settle for 3rd giving him 2-3 for 2nd overall on the day.

Joey Crown would make up 3 points in the title chase and Shawn Maffenbeier with a terrible day has dropped back leaving a bit of a showdown at the last round between Pettis and Crown as Pettis leads with the red plate by 3 points.

Little extra shout out this week to 6D as Pettis had a huge practice crash Thursday before the race that he is certain that without an industry leading helmet he may not have been able to race at all.  With Halsteads’ crash it was evident that his Atlas brace and 6D helmet did their job to the full extent of limiting the effects of such a huge crash.  Thanks for keeping our guys safe!
