Keeping the winning ways alive at Round 1…

The great outdoors begun this past weekend in Calgary AB.  One of the most iconic stops on the tour with the city in the backdrops of all the pictures as it is the only facility that features this view.

The team looked to continue our winning ways as the stats show that we come out swinging at the first round.  Over the past 5 seasons our team has won 7 out of the 8 possible MX2 moto’s, which is a stat we are very proud of too say the least.

We brought to Calgary a new guy (Luke Renzland), a sick guy (Marco Cannella) and an injured guy (Hayden Halstead).  Luke proved he was up to the task of keeping the streak alive of moto wins.  After a poor start in the first moto had him playing catch up and only making it to 6th by the checkers, but moto 2 would be another story.   Coming off the gate in 2nd and with his head down it would not take him long to make the pass for the lead and ride strong bringing home his first ever win on Canadian soil.  His 6-1 moto scores would give the team an unparalleled 80%-win ratio at the season opener since 2015.

Marco would come into the weekend with a sinus infection and battled vision with swollen eyes and fatigue throughout the day.   He would struggle both motos but rode consistently and smartly to grab as many points as possible finishing the day 9th overall with 10-9 finishes.   We look forward to a week of rest and antibiotics so that Marco can show that he has what it takes to battle at the front.

Hayden coming in with only 1.5 hours of riding since October is going to make for a tough western swing as he rides his way into shape.  He suffered an off-bike injury just days before he was to leave for his preseason training down south and is now playing catch up to the guys who have been prepping for months.    He put his best foot forward in moto 1 and managed to finish an impressive 16th.   Unfortunately, moto 2 would prove to be too much on the fresh injury and would become a test of survival as Hayden fell back to 27th.

On to Prince George this weekend for round #2 of the 8 round MX tour.
